Don’t Ignore Your Body’s Warning Signs

Have you been ignoring your body’s warning signs?

Your body undergoes a significant loading process of different forces when performing strenuous/ repetitive exercise or improper movement patterns such as poor posture, lifting incorrectly etc. If your body isn’t in the right state to handle the forces then it will compensate to avoid injury and when it can’t compensate anymore often the injury occurs

An injury can occur with a specific trauma or from repetitive micro trauma/ overuse syndromes.

A simple way to think of it is if you hit a pothole in your brand new Ferrari and the wheel alignment is now “out of alignment” you have two options:

  1.  Take it to the mechanics straight away and get the alignment sorted before you continue to use the car

  2.  Or you ignore it and keep driving, the longer you leave it for the more the car experiences different compensation forces from being pulled in a different direction, the tyre is now under significant strain due to the fact we are still driving on it.

Now, if you took it to the mechanic straight away they will fix the alignment and make sure the tyre and car is functioning well. If you waited and drove 20,000km the mechanic will say your tread has been worn down more on that tyre and you might need to replace it, fix the other tyres due to the compensation, make sure the rest of the car can function.

Same applies to us as a human, if we keep putting off an injury or a “niggle” it is often a warning light that something is not right with your mechanics and that’s the body’s way of letting you know.

So don’t wait until you’re “broken” get it assessed properly and regain control of your body’s performance
